Today, in 1859, Oregon was one day old.  It was declared a state on February 14th.  Our state animal is the beaver, our state flower is the Oregon Grape, and our state bird is the Western Meadow Lark.  Our State tree is the Douglas fir.  Our state fruit is the pear, and our state drink is—you guessed it: Milk.   We even have a state dance: the square dance.  Happy Birthday, beautiful Oregon!
