Olys, unfortunately, the library has once again experienced not one, but two thefts: Our antique dictionary and a Rubik’s cube. In addition to the theft, our Library has been repeatedly littered with food, which has resulted in a mouse problem. So, until our stolen items are returned and our students can respect the no eating policy, the library will be closed during lunch. And as a reminder, you must have a release, an online class, or a note from a teacher to be in the library during class time and you must have your physical ID card to check anything out. Thank you for your cooperation! 2/1

This Monday is Martin Luther King National Day of Service.  In 1994, the Federal Government made this a day of service.  It is not meant to be a holiday—but a day of thoughtful planned service to others.  You may want to pick up some garbage in the neighborhood, help a neighbor, or help your parents.  By helping others, you will honor the legacy of this great man.

During the century after the Civil War, African Americans remained segregated in the South.  There they were treated with prejudice, denied voting rights and even lynched.   This time was called the “Jim Crow” era.

Many African American leaders sought to overcome this.  One leader was Martin Luther King.  He was minister who led hundreds of thousands of blacks to use civil protest to bring about change. He would be killed in 1968, at the age of 39.

Thank you, Dr. King for changing the world with your bravery!

Congratulations to your number 4 ranked Sprague wrestlers who defeated McKay last night 59-12 on senior night. The Olympians were led by seniors Aaron Joklur, Maximus Garrett, & Daniel McClung who all scored bonus points with their victories. Nearly $50 of Dutch Bros was handed out to students in attendance due to the large number of pins. The JV improved to 2-0 on the season with a 42-21 victory. The next home wrestling meet is the MVC Tournament in February. Great job wrestlers and good luck with the remainder of your season.

Sprague's Advanced Constitutional Law class/team did amazing last night at the We the People Regional competition! The judges were incredibly impressed and Sprague even was awarded “Winner” of Unit 3! If you see any Con Law team members congratulate them on their achievement!

Please excuse the swim team today at 12:15 for their 2pm meet against West Salem. Go Olys!

Attention Students!  Are you interested in learning about what it takes to attend an Ivy League School?  Would you like to know what college by talking to a current college student?  Presentations are scheduled for Monday, January 14th starting at 7:30 a.m. in the library.  You may sign up through the ASPIRE website to attend one of the presentations.  You may also see Ms Dunn for further information. 1/11

Key Club is still collecting coats and other warm clothes until January 18th.  Also, due to the fact that all humans need to be warm, we will accept coats of all sizes – even the small ones that your little brothers or sisters wore in kindergarten. So clean out your closets and bring in the extra coats and jackets that are just taking up space anyway, and feel good knowing that your donation will be keeping someone warm. 1/18

An admissions counselor from the University of Oregon will be visiting our campus on Tuesday, Jan 15th during 4th Period.  Any student interested in the University of Oregon can sign up through the ASPIRE website or see Ms. Dunn for more information. 1/11

All students interested in playing softball in the spring, Coach Qualls is having a meeting on Thursday night, Jan 10th at 6pm to review some items.  Please plan on attending with your family.  The meeting will be held in the library. 1/10

Sprague's Advanced Constitutional Law team will compete tonight at the We the People Regional competition! Sprague is the first school in Salem-Keizer School District to have a competitive team and will be the only school outside of the Portland-Metro area competing. Tonight students will showcase their expertise while being questioned by a panel of judges testing student's knowledge. The competition will begin at 5:30PM at Lake Oswego High School. If you see an Advanced Con Law student today, wish them luck!

Hey Olys – It sure is cold outside.  There are people in our community in need of warm clothing like coats, hats, gloves and socks.  To help meet that need, Key Club is doing a coat drive from today until January 18th.  Please help us out by bringing in new or gently used coats, hats, gloves or (preferably new) socks. You can place them in the marked boxes in the commons and in the Oly Lounge.  1/18
