Sprague will be doing its 2nd Annual prom dress and accessory drive to help collect items for local non-profit Abby’s Closet. You can help by bringing items that include prom dresses, accessories or cash. We will be collecting these items during the weeks of March 12th through April 5th. Items donated will be worth 1 entry in the drawing, cash or 5 items will double your entries and 10 items/ $20 or more dollars will triple your entries. Reach Higher Day will be Thursday, April 5th.    All Students and Staff will be wearing their favorite College/Career swag that day!  The Reach Higher Celebration is for all members of the Class of 2018 to attend and celebrate their next journey.   This year’s event will be held in the Pantheon.  All seniors are encourage to attend.  Refreshments will be provided.   For more information, please see Ms. Dunn. 3/21

In addition to Parent Conferences starting on Wednesday, March 21st, ASPIRE is hosting college admission representatives from the University of Alabama, Corban University, Chemeketa Community College, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, Willamette University, and military recruiters from all military branches.  We encourage our students and parents to visit the College and Career Center from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 3/21

There are three upcoming college field trips.  On April 22nd,  a field trip is scheduled to attend the College Fair at the University of Portland.  On April 23rd, a field trip is planned for Linn-Benton Community College.  On May 8th,  Willamette University is hosting a fair for interested students.  Please see Ms. Dunn if you are interested any attending any of these field trips. 3/21

This Week’s Scholarship Spotlight  is on the Salem Health Foundation Scholarship.  Are you thinking about attending college for nursing, medical imaging, pharmacy, or supportive role in the medical field?   The Salem Health Foundation Scholarship awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in healthcare professions.   Applications can be found in the ASPIRE Center. 3/21

The boys golf team had their first GVC match yesterday at Michelbook Country club in McMinnville. It was a great day to be on the course! The Olys placed 3rd behind West Salem and McNary. Our next match is April 2nd at Salem golf club.

The 2018 Salem-Keizer School District Spelling Contest was held at Crossler Middle school on Tuesday.  Two Sprague students competed in Division III.  Mindy Atlschul placed second and Ace Matkin took third.  Congratulations Sprague Olys!

The Sprague Girls Golf Team won the second GVC match of the season at Michelbook Golf Course in McMinnville yesterday! Quincy Beyrouty finished in 2nd place, Natalie Bock finished in 4th place, and Reese Sherwood finished in 5th place.

Two of our Olympians competed in the Oregon State Gymnastics Championship meet this past weekend.  Alexa McClung and Morgan Hiebert competed in the event as level 10 athletes, the highest level.  Morgan has been dealing with a torn labrum in her shoulder for the entire season and gutted out an all-around sixth place finish.  She finished 2nd on floor, 4th on beam, 6th on vault.  Alexa finished 1st on bars & vault, 2nd on floor & beam and finished 1st all-around.  She caps off her high school career as a two time all-around Oregon State Champion and has qualified for regionals in Tacoma, Washington this April.  She has verbally committed to Oregon State University.

The Sprague Olyannes dance team made the finals for the 6A division at the OSAA State Dance and Drill Championships at the Memorial Coliseum last Saturday by placing in the top ten during the preliminary round on Friday. This completes a successful winter season for the Olyannes and concludes four years of participation on the team for five seniors: captains Morgan Thomas, Madeline Edwards, Madelyn Hanes and Allyssa Lutz and officer Emily Newton. Congratulations to all of the Olyannes!

Today, Sprague will be participating in the National Walk Out. This will be held one month after the Parkland tragedy to honor of the seventeen people who were killed. Anyone who wants to participate respectfully can leave sixth period at ten o’clock to assemble outside of the main entrance. When students are dismissed from the front of the school, they should return to their sixth period class where attendance will be taken. For more information please talk to Daniel Garcia-King, Talia Ruehr, Geovanny Tolentino, or Maxwell Laine.

The Sprague Girls Golf Team did amazing yesterday winning by 54 strokes in the opening tournament of the season, held by SAY Golf! Quincy Beyrouty shot 5 over par to finish in 2nd place, Natalie Bock finished in 5th place, and Reese Sherwood finished in 7th place. Taylor Monismith and Chloe Elmore both played well to help the team bring home the victory.

Chain Reaction is going to meet in the Oly Forum today during lunch.

Congratulations to Sprague’s Speech and Debate Team for their dominating performance this last Friday at the OSAA State Qualifier tournament held here at Sprague. 4 schools were in attendance competing for the opportunity to compete for a state championship next month at Western Oregon University. The team placed first overall for the 5th year in a row and the following Olympians earned spots to state. Ramon Martinez in After Dinner Speaking and Radio Commentary. Cailin Meek in Expository Speaking and Parliamentary Debate. Emma Michaux in Expository Speaking and Prose Interpretation. Spanish Club is hosting a dress up contest and Carnival celebration today, so head on down to room 124 at lunch today and celebrate Carnival! Nos vemos! 3/7

Tomorrow, March 8th is an advisory schedule.  All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students will report to the gym tomorrow during advisory time.   Seniors will report to the Pantheon for a senior meeting.  All students will not need to report to your assigned advisory class, but go directly to the gym or Pantheon.

The Sprague Dance Team competed at Thurston high school in Springfield on Saturday, March 3. The team placed first in the 6A division and earned the highest score of all the teams at that competition! In addition, 6 dancers placed in the individual drill down competitions.  The winners in the novice division were freshmen Marisa Bradley, Sonya Frontino and Allison Clements. In the advanced division, the winners were senior Alyssa Lutz, junior Hannah Owen and sophomore Cassidy Sedore.  Congratulations to all of the Olyannes!

The Oregon Student Aid and Completion Scholarship Application is due today at 5:00 p.m. Typically, Sprague Seniors will qualify for 10 to 15 scholarships in the OSAC database.  3/1

Congratulations to the boys basketball team for their 54-50 win over Willamette High School last night in the first round of the state playoffs.  Teagan Quitoriano led all scorers with 21 points.  Jailen Hammer had 10 and Kobe Withers added 9.  The boys play Barlow here on Saturday evening for a chance to advance to the final 8 at the Chiles Center in Portland.  Get out and support your team!

Team Sprague Track and Field will begin practice at 2:45 in the weight room today.

The boys basketball team was well represented on the Greater Valley League all-conference teams.  Teagan Quitoriano was named to the first team.  Jailen Hammer and Kobe Withers were named to the second team, and Perry VanHouten and Max Long were honorable mentions.  Congratulation guys!
