Hello Sprague! Snoball is celebrating its 65th year of the Willamette Valley All-School Dance on December 1st, 8pm-Midnight at the Oregon State Fair Grounds Pavilion. Come and enjoy an inclusive dance with a variety of music. Proceeds go to Willamette Academy. Tickets can be purchased online at snoballsalem.com or they will be sold during lunch on Wednesday 11/28 and song requests will be taken on 11/28 also. Prices are $30 single, or $25 with a purchase of 2 or more (prices will increase at the door). Cash and Card are accepted. Hope to see you there.

Tuesday was World Kindness Day. But kindness shouldn’t be limited to one day, so Chain Reaction is celebrating it all week with the Kindness Wall in the commons. Come write and read kind quotes, ideas, or stories. 11/16

Today is the final day of College Application Week.  Congratulations to all the students who visited the ASPIRE Room to work on their FAFSA, OSAC Scholarship Application and the Oregon Promise.  There is still more time for you to work on your applications during Thanksgiving Break.

On Monday, November 19th starting at 5:30 p.m., Sprague will be hosting a ‘College/Career Jumpstart’.  Representatives from various local colleges and military recruiters will be available to answer questions and provide information for both parents and students.

Day 3 of College Application Week:  The ASPIRE Room has drop in times during 2nd and 3rd periods today.  Volunteers and mentors are available to assist any Sprague student needing assistance with college or career options.   Today’s College & Career fact involves our military recruiters:  Did you know each branch of the military visits our campus twice a month?  Here is the schedule:

Wednesday: US Navy
Thursday: Oregon National Guard & US Air Force

Sprague Birders, today is the day for our first bird walk so gather in Room 149 at 2:30.  We will be out and about for an hour or so.  See you then! 11/14

Day 2 of College Application Week – Today, the ASPIRE Room will be open during 6th and 7th periods today for students planning to graduate in December or June that needs assistance.  Students are also encouraged to post College Application Week photos and TAG the ASPIRE Sprague on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.  An Admissions Representative from Portland State University will be at Sprague High School during 8th period.  Today’s College/Career Fact involves Sprague graduates.  36% of last year’s graduates are attending a community college this fall. 11/14/18

The Sprague Olyannes dance team attended their second competition of the fall season at Wilsonville High school on November 10. The team placed second in the novelty and pom divisions and third in the hip hop category. Their high scores over the past two weeks have qualified all three of their routines for the fall championships in December.  In addition, freshman Ayiesha Chang and sophomore Sonya Frontino placed in the top 10 of their individual drill down competitions. Congratulations to all of the Olyannes!

Today starts College Application Week at Sprague High School.   The ASPIRE Room will be open for any student graduating early in December 2018 or June 2019 if you need any assistance with FAFSA, OSAC Scholarships, or Oregon Promise.  Here is a College/Career Fact of the Day:  Did you know that there are 77 jobs with an annual salary of $45,000 or higher in the state of Oregon that requires less than 2 years of college .  If you are interested in finding out more information, stop by the ASPIRE Room today.

Leadership is looking for freshmen and sophomores who want to get more involved during second semester. Applications are in Mr. Schueller’s room, #142, or the front office. Applications are due November 30th , so don’t wait!  11/9

Beginning Tuesday, November 13th – Sprague High School will be celebrating College Application Week.  Students and Staff will be encouraged to wear their favorite College Gear throughout the week.  Take a photo via Instagram and tag #Sprague CAW 2018 and you may win a prize at the end of the week.  11/9

Sprague Popcorn Lovers! Every Friday starting, today you can now find your favorite popcorn at the new popcorn window in Room 127 (Ms. Anderson’s room). This buttery goodness is still 50 cents a bag. Pop on over to Room 127, bring a friend, and treat your taste buds!

Congratulations to 123 graduating seniors who have completed their FAFSA.  Next Week is College Application Week,  any student planning to graduate in December or June needing assistance—please stop in the ASPIRE Center. 

As a reminder, the Sprague Band Members are starting their annual Butter Braid Fundraiser November 9th.  The fundraiser is timed with the upcoming holidays in mind and will run through November 26th.  All Butter Braid orders will be delivered to the school on December 12th.  To place your order, please see any participating band students between now and November 26th.  Don’t miss out and spread the word. Go Olympians!

AVID Students will be hosting a Flapjack Fundraiser tomorrow morning at the South Applebee’s, located on the corner of Kuebler and Commercial. We will be serving a pancake breakfast from 8am until 10am. Tickets are $10 per meal and include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and beverage. If you are interested, you can purchase tickets through any AVID student, or at the door (cash or check only). This is a fun opportunity to gather and support our Oly students for a good cause!

Attention winter athletes: Monday November 12th is the first official day of the winter sport season. If you are planning to participate in a winter sport, you will need to turn your athletic participation packet in to the athletic office before the end of the day today! Please keep in mind, that Monday is a holiday and all offices are closed, you will not be able to participate if you have not been cleared.

Monday is Veteran’s Day. November 11th is the day that World War I ended in 1918. This Day of Remembrance was set aside by Congress to honor all veterans of the armed services.
What will you do on Monday?  You may sleep in, you may go to a movie, or you may catch up on your homework.  Some of you may attend a veteran’s day ceremony or parade.
But, while you do this, take a moment to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom you enjoy today.

Key Club is a volunteer organization focused on bettering our community.  If that sounds like a good idea to you, come to our meeting on Thursday.  Or, even better, join Key Club for our first annual leaf rake this afternoon!  If you have arms and legs and would like to join us in beautifying our campus, or if you just want to come and goof around for a bit whilst we rake leaves, please come!  We’ll meet in room 116 at 2:45 today.

This year, Sprague will be recognizing students who are excelling at leaving an OLY Legacy by following our school-wide behavior expectations: Own Your Actions, Live a Life you are Proud Of, and Yes to Success. Each month, Sprague staff will nominate and vote on students for our Student of the Month award. The top two nominees from each grade level will be chosen as our Students of the Month.

The Sprague Olyannes dance team attended their first competition of the fall season at Gladstone High school on November 3. The team placed second in the pom and hip hop divisions and third in the novelty category. Their high scores qualified their pom and hip hop routines for the fall championships in December.  In addition, junior Amanda Lutz placed in the top 10 of the advanced individual drill down competition. Congratulations to all of the Olyannes!

Congratulations to Elise Abbott for competing in the Cross Country State Meet this past Saturday.  The race took place at Lane Community College in Eugene.  In a field of 155 athletes Elise placed 33rd in a time of 19 min 16 sec.  The final meet of the season had teams from every district represented, racing 5km on a fast and challenging course.  Congratulations to Elise for your hard work and effort throughout the entire season.  Go Olys.

Thank you to everyone who voted for our staff pumpkin decorating contest.  We guarantee there was no cheating, only creativity at its best.  Our winners:  1st place goes to Mr. Kramer with the Darth Vader pumpkin—booyah Kramer—that pumpkin rocked the holiday.  2nd place goes to Ms. Downs, our lovely French teacher with the pumpkin saying, CARVED, nice job Ms. Downs, and finally 3rd place goes to Miss Atkinson, representing Oly Nation with her awesome Sprague pumpkin, super cool pumpkin Miss Atkinson.  We do have one honorable mention, this goes to Ms. Andersen’s niece, Jaycee, by far the most authentic scary pumpkin in the contest, red eyes, toothpick teeth.  Excellent job everyone.  Look for our next contest for Thanksgiving!!
