Chain Reaction will meet during lunch today in the Oly Forum.

This morning in 1944, D-Day began in France.  This was a huge invasion by allied forces to move into Nazi occupied France and take on the long task of moving Germany back to its borders and defeating Hitler’s Evil Empire. The Jews in concentration camps depended on this success to free them from certain death.  Anne Frank marked the invasion on the map in her hiding place, only a month before she was taken out and sent to Auschwitz.  A young man, from Oregon, Eugene Morrison, was with the paratroopers in the early morning hours, waiting to be dropped behind enemy lines.  His plane was hit and he did not make it out, though three on his plane did, parachuting down to enemy territory.  His burned body was found with his downed aircraft.  Eugene is buried at the cememtery in France at Colville sur Mer---it is the same cemetery that one sees in the movie: Saving Private Ryan. Many men who nearly died were later interviewed and asked what were their last thoughts.  Their thoughts were almost always of us—future generations who would live in freedom because they paid the ultimate price.  Our freedom was paid for by their blood.  Let us remember their ultimate sacrifice during these moments and throughout the day.
