Congratulations to the Sprague Olyannes (oh-lee-annes) Dance Team for placing first in the Show division at Thurston High School on Saturday, March 5.  In addition, six dancers placed in the top 10 of the individual novice drill down competition: freshmen Bella Terzenbach (Ter-zen-bock), Jillian Rodriguez Lentz, Micayla Wilcox and Layla Cassity with sophomores Lindsay Tudela (Too-del-ah) and Teresa Thao (Taow). Three Olyannes placed in the top 10 of the advanced drill down competition: juniors Kayla Pobuda (Pah-boo-duh) and Gracie Heagy (He-a-ge) and senior Ayiesha (I-ee-sha) Chang. The team's next competition will be the OSAA State Dance Team Championships on Friday, March 18, at Oregon City high school.

Congratulations to Chloe Rusetskiy, Sage Taloyo, Amy Charnholm and Payton Prys of the Sprague String quartet for winning districts on Saturday! Please congratulate them as they are going to state!

ATTENTION OLYS. In just a few months, the annual Spirit Competition will end, and the hyphy (High-fee) cup will be awarded to the winning class. This Thursday, march 10th, is color wars and it is worth DOUBLE SPIRIT POINTS. Freshmen wear grey, sophomores wear black, juniors wear orange, and seniors wear white. Double points means any grade could make a comeback and gain the lead.

On Thursday March 10th we will be having our Western Oregon University Latino Advisory Board monthly meeting! The meeting will be at the WOU Salem Building @ 525 Trade St SE. Dinner, and Spanish presentation will begin at 5:30PM. If you want more information about WOU LAB come see Juan, our Community School Outreach Coordinator, in the main office!

Congratulations to all the Sprague musicians who participated at the OMEA District 4 Solo & Ensemble Contest this weekend!  All those who played represented themselves, their families, and their school exceptionally well.  Special recognition goes to Caden Randolph, Evan Randolph, and Avery Rowzee, whose scores earned a recommendation to the State Solo Contest in May.  Reese Bennett and Darius Yehnert have been named alternates to the state contest.

Today marks the International Woman’s Day. International Women’s Day was a worker’s holiday that began with strikes held by women in Soviet Russia.  Women have contributed to all fields of achievement: others were nameless mothers and sisters who supported men in their achievements.  Many women were denied advancement because of the prejudices of the day: and in many places in the world this remains the case.  Today, parts of the world are in a serious war.   Children are being cared for by their mothers in difficult situations.  Over a million refugees, mainly women and children, have fled Ukraine.  They have unique burden to continue to physically and emotionally provide for others during this conflict. We salute all women of the world:  they are our mothers, sisters, grandmothers and daughters.
