Attention juniors and seniors! The annual Oly Luau is just around the corner. The luau will be held on Friday, May 30th, and will consist of senior boy vs. Staff basketball, senior boy vs. junior boy volleyball, and powder-puff football, with the senior girls taking on the junior girls. If you are interested in participating in any of these events, you can find the sign-up sheets in Mr. Mirsepassi's room, room 161. Each participant will be required to pay a $10 fee for t-shirts and referees. There are a limited number of spots for each sport, so don't wait!  (5/9)

Juniors and seniors! Prom is finally here! Prom will take place this Saturday, May 3rd, from 8:30-11:00 at Creekside Golf Club. Tickets are now on sale at lunch in the commons and before and after school in Mr. Mirsepassi's room. The theme is "A Midnight in Paris," and we can guarantee it will be a wonderful time! Sprague High School will be offering the Trig-Star test today immediately after school in the Library.  The TrigStar Contest is an annual high school mathematics competition based on the practical application of Trigonometry.
The test is free to participants and incorporates the use of complex trigonometric functions. A monetary prize of $50-$100 is awarded to the top score at Sprague. The winner will have the opportunity compete in local and possibly to go to the State competition on in Portland. Just show up in the library afterschool. No sign up needed (4/30)

Students!  Are you interested in learning more about the FBI?  The FBI’s Portland Division is now accepting application for its 5th annual Youth Leadership Academy to be held this summer, July 16-18th.  You will get to work with FBI Special Agents, developing leadership skills, doing some hands on forensics work, and even participate in a mock crime scene investigation.  This program is open to any high school student.   The application process is competitive, and acceptance is not guaranteed.  If you are interested, please come and get an application from the business office. The annual Sheep to Shawl event is scheduled for May 10. Volunteers are needed at two times: 9:30 – 1:00 and 12:30 to 4:15. They have a variety of activities to staff including helping with children’s crafts such as rope making, pioneer fashion show and “making sheep’s ear” head bands and watching over the historic houses and Mill.  It all comes with simple/easy training. We need 10 – 12 volunteers in each time period. If you are interested in volunteering, we will have the contact information in the business office.  (5/2)

The "Teenangsters" Reception will be May 6th from 6-8 PM. Our students will be displaying work created with input from their mentor artists over the past school year. Pat Pataranutaporn's projection art is featured on the show publicity and invitation. The Sprague art interns are Karley Coady, Sydney Buchholz, Beth Viertel, Alyssa Gordillo, Molly Jones, and Pat Pataranutaporn. (5/5)

Tickets are $25 for a single ticket, and $40 for two. Prom will be held on May 3rd at Creekside Golf Club from 8:30-11:00. The theme is "A Night in Paris," and any guests attending from another school must have a guest permission form filled out and turned in for approval no later than Tuesday, April 29th. Congratulations to the Girls Golf team for their performance yesterday at Salem Golf Club. The ladies won the CVC match by 19 strokes. Deanna Salvatori had back to back wins Friday at Illahe and yesterday at Salem. Both Friday and yesterday Deanna was 2 under par for each round.  Freshman Gracie Pfau won the JV tournament at Salem.  (4/29)

The 22nd Annual Asian American Youth Leadership Conference will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Concordia University. The goal of the conference is to help our youth achieve their potential by promoting education, fostering leadership development, cultivating self-confidence, providing resources, and encouraging civic engagement. This year’s theme is “Who Am I?”
Early registration is $15.00 through today, after that the fee is $20.00, and is due by May 9th.

 Hey, in case you hadn’t noticed….and judging by the attendance, you haven’t.  The Sprague Boys Golf team has steadily increased their level of play throughout the season and won the title at the Lebanon/Sweet Home invitational yesterday against a very competitive filed.  Nick Jacobs and Ryan Krause led the team with top 5 individual performances.  The Olympians will travel to Tokatee Golf Course Friday and expect to continue their winning ways.

The goal of the conference is to help our youth achieve their potential by promoting education, fostering leadership development, cultivating self-confidence, providing resources, and encouraging civic engagement. This year’s theme is “Who Am I?”

Here are the results from the regional math contest yesterday at Chemeketa. Sprague did a great job! Kenneth Leja placed 2nd in algebra 25-Minus.
Sebastian Ward placed 2nd in geometry qualifying exam and qualified for State.
Maggie Redford and Emma Tornberg placed 1st in calculus team problem solving
Team Sprague placed 3rd in the team relay. Great job to Team members: Orion Bernal, Sebastian Ward, Hannah Taylor, Maggie Redford, Emma Tornberg, Ian Stack, Haley Rodin, Mitch Ekdahl, Lauren Jin, and Kenneth Leja.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Blitz Drive Next week beginning on Monday April 21st - Friday April 25th.  Bring a new jar of Peanut Butter and/or Jelly to the collection booth during lunch in front of attendance office any day next week.  All food items go towards the Marion County Food Share for under privileged families and kids.  If you have any questions see Mr. Dobrkovsky and/or Sophomore Allie Tracy. (4/25)


The girl’s golf team has travelled far and wide in the last few weeks. The team finished its adventures by placing first Tuesday at Oak Knoll Golf Course. They won by 19 strokes over the 2nd place team. Yesterday the Varsity played at Willamette Valley Country Club and had strong performances by Jordan Hagedorn and Morgan Morley. Deanna Salvatori placed 2nd overall with a 75 in a very tough and competitive field with the states top golfers. Great job ladies. The girls host a CVC golf tournament next Friday at Illahe, please come and support them.

Team Sprague Track and Field put in some quality performances at their meet yesterday versus West Salem.  Maggie Boles had a standout day winning the 100 and 200 in the fifth fastest times in school history.  She also anchored our winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Levi Long passed another landmark in winning the shot with a throw of 51' 8".  Kyle Rosenau joined Austin Kleinman as freshman who eclipsed the 40' mark in the shot put, and in the discus, Sprague has the 1st and 2nd mark in the district at this time with throws by Levi Long and Austin Kleinman. The girls shot was won by Nicole Logologo who is now 2nd in the District. A special thanks to all of the staff and students who helped us run the meet.  Please join us on April 30th for our last home meet and to say goodbye to our seniors. (4/17)

Hey Sprague fans, tonight at 8 o'clock the lacrosse team has their first league game against South at home. Come show your support at one of the most intense games of the season. Wear orange and get Hyphy!

Team Sprague Track and Field put in a lot of quality performances yesterday at their meet at South.  Maggie Boles won the 200m and the 400m in the girls, Lindsey Dorsey won the Triple Jump, Long Jump and 100m Hurdles, Mia Diaz won the 800m and ran legs on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays, Alex Sims won the 300m Hurdles and ran legs on the winning relay teams as well.  Leah Olivo won the High Jump and in the throws, Nicole Logologo won shot put and Y Perez won the Discus, entering the 100' club. On the boy’s side, Levi Long won the Discus and the Shot put and entered the 50 foot club with a winning throw of 50' 3".  Zach Hewson won the Javelin, and our JV boys as a whole almost doubled up the Saxons in points. We are next on the Track at home vs. West Salem on 4/16.  Come out and cheer us.  Go Olys!

Attention juniors!  Today is OUS day.  You will get to hear a brief presentation from all of the Oregon Universities from around the state.  Then you will attend two sessions to hear more about any of the following schools:  OSU, U of O, OIT, Eastern, Southern, PSU, Western, or OSU Cascades.  Please be thinking about what two schools you would like to hear more about.  The presentation begins at 9 a.m. in the pantheon and wraps up just before lunch.  Your 2nd period teachers will dismiss you to the pantheon right before the presentation begins.  Even if you are already going to another college, or have other post high school plans, this is still a great opportunity to hear more about options, ask questions, hear about programs they offer, and compare them to other options you may be considering.  See you all there! Team Sprague Track and Field Hosted a meet yesterday against Cascade and North Marion.  Standout performances were put in by the following people: Maggie Boles won the 200m and her time places her as 8th all-time at Sprague High School. Leah Olivo won the Triple Jump and moved into 7th all-time at Sprague High School. Lindsey Dorsey moved up to 5th all time in the 100M Hurdles and our girls 4x100 relay, with 100M winner Esther Young, recorded the 7th fastest time in Sprague History with the team of Alex Sims, Esther Young, Mia Diaz, and Maggie Boles. On the Boys Side, Andrew Weaver won the 100M and Zach Hewson had a great day in the Throws winning the Shot Put, the Javelin and placing 2nd in the Discus. Great Job Olys. Don’t forget that if you took the Hybrid SAT/ACT test on March 15th, the results will be given back tonight, April 2nd in the library at Sprague High School from 6:00-7:30 PM.  At this event, the test score results will be explained, local test prep resources will be available, and much more information.  If you are unable to attend, you will be able to pick-up your test results in the business office the next day. (4/2)

Hey Oly Nation! Are you ready to rock out? This Friday, April 4th, the 21 and Under Club is back with the Four//Four//Fourteen show number 10. Doors open at 6:45, the show runs from 7-10pm and is all ages. Admission is five dollars, cash or card. The concert is at 241 State St- the Nest here in Salem, a block east of the Riverfront Carousel. This week's line up features Sprague band Help on the Way featuring Ryan Tadlock, Brett Herb, Tom Slaff, and Sterling Sachs. This is a great chance to come out and support local music and a concert run entirely by Salem Youth. Advanced tickets will be on sale all this week, starting today via Miranda Crowell. Attention Juniors!  OUS day is coming on Monday, April 7th.  You will get to hear a brief presentation from all of the Oregon Universities from around the state.  Then you will attend two sessions to hear more about any of the following schools:  OSU, U of O, OIT, Eastern, Southern, PSU, Western, or OSU Cascades.  Please be thinking about what two schools you would like to hear more about.  The presentation begins at 9 a.m. in the pantheon and wraps up just before lunch.  Your 2nd period teachers will dismiss you to the pantheon right before the presentation begins.  Even if you are already going to another college, or have other post high school plans, this is still a great opportunity to hear more about options, ask questions, hear about programs they offer, and compare them to other options you may be considering.  See you all there! Each year close to 100 high school students volunteer for the Country Kids Relays. If you are interested in volunteering, pick up an application from Mr. Crystal. Applications are due May 2nd. The relay takes place May 10th. (4/18)

If you took the Hybrid SAT/ACT test on March 15th, the results will be given back tomorrow night, April 2nd in the Pantheon at Sprague High School from 6:00-7:30 PM.  At this event, the test score results will be explained, local test prep resources will be available, and much more information.  If you are unable to attend, you will be able to pick-up your test results in the business office the next day.

Congratulations to Sprague's Speech and Debate team who made some serious waves last weekend at the Northern Oregon National Forensic League National Qualifying Tournament. The team sent 12 students, and in the end 6 punched their tickets to nationals in Overland Park, Kansas. Aujalee Fisher and Kate Goldsworthy are first time qualifiers in Public Forum debate. Brandon Roth is a first time qualifier in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Jonah Calhoun successfully defended his Humorous Interpretation crown and is returning for his second trip to nationals. Olivia Wall is also on her second trip with her Public Forum debate partner Quentin Michael who will be attending his fourth nationals. Quentin is Sprague's first four-year qualifier! Six qualifiers is also a first for Sprague's program. The team placed 2nd in Speech and 1st in Debate. Way to go Oly Speechies!
