Attention Class of 2018:  This week’s Scholarship Spotlight is for the PNACAC Student Scholarship  $1,000 scholarship for students who attend school in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Students must submit a one-minute video entry on how college helps them reach their goals or how their college counselor helped them find the right college fit.  The deadline is March 1^st.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Dunn. 1/19

The Sprague Olyannes dance team will be hosting a dance team competition at Sprague on Saturday, January 13.  The competition features 20 performances from elementary and middle school teams from around the state including Crossler middle school. The round starts at 1:00 pm and admission is $7. Come and enjoy the entertainment!

This Monday is Martin Luther King National Day of Service.   By helping others, you will honor the legacy of this great man.  During the century after the Civil War, African Americans remained segregated in the South.  There they were treated with prejudice, denied voting rights and even lynched.  This time was called the “Jim Crow” era.  Many African American leaders sought to overcome this.  One leader was Martin Luther King.  He was a minister who led hundreds of thousands of blacks to use civil protest to bring about change. He was killed in 1968, at the age of 39.  In 1994, the Federal Government made this a day of service.  It is not meant to be a holiday—but a day of thoughtful planned service to others.  Thank you, Dr. King for changing the world with your bravery!

Congratulations to the boys varsity basketball team for their thrilling 66-53 win against West Salem last night.  The Olys went on a 16-0 run in the 4^th quarter to seal the victory and stay alone in first place in league.  Teagan Quitoriano led the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Jailen Hammer added 16 point and played a great defensive game, and Perry VanHouten scored 11 points, including 3 for 4 from the three point line; and pulled down a season high 8 rebounds.  The Olympians move to 5-0 in league and 10-2 overall.  The team would like to thank the student section for their loud support last night!

Congratulations to Sprague’s Speech and Debate team for their outstanding work at last weekend’s University of Puget Sound Invitational in Tacoma, Washington. 4 Olympians finished in the top 10 in their various individual speaking events, with Lindsey Williams placing 2^nd overall in Varsity Division Impromptu Speaking. Eden McCall and Arianna Martin advanced to double-octafinals in Public Forum debate, marking the first time they have advanced to playoffs in a National Circuit level tournament. Lindsey Williams finished tied for 5^th in Lincoln-Douglas debate at took home top speaking honors. Great job Oly Speechies!

Congratulations to the members of the Class of 2018 for completing their FAFSA over Christmas Break.   Currently, 202 of the 481 seniors  have completed their Financial Aid requirements.  Ms. Dunn would like to thank Kayleigh Pierson for her due diligence assisting her fellow classmates.  Keep up the good work.

Congratulations to #3 ranked wrestler Daniel McClung who placed 2nd this weekend at the state of Washington’s toughest tournament. Also doing well we’re Bo Joklur, Nathan Quist, and GeJuan Lancaster who all narrowly missed out at placing at the prestigious tournament.  Back in Oregon, a host of Sprague Wrestlers placed at the Screamin’ Eagle Invitational. Colby Hemmert, Skyler Goodwin-Lowell, Roland Hare, Isaac Garcia, Simon Artunyan, and Jacob Bos all placed in the top 4 of their respective weight classes. Great job Sprague Wrestlers and good luck this week at the Oregon Wrestling Classic! 1/9

Congratulations to your #3 ranked Sprague wrestlers who competed well over the break.  The team finished 3^rd place at the 36 team Northwest Duals this past week with an 8-1 record. The wrestlers had victories over the #4, 5, 6, and 7 ranked teams in the state. The Sprague Winter Warriors also competed in two other tournaments over the break. Santos Cantu placed 6^th at the prestigious Reno Tournament of Champions, and Austin Schreefer won the Larry Owings Invitational in Canby. The Oly wrestlers will compete this Thursday at 5 at McNary High School.  See you there!
