Congratulations to the swim team for some incredible swims yesterday against South Salem.  
The Olympians had 38 lifetime best swims.  Reede Fischer dropped almost 5 seconds in her 50 freestyle.  Luke Goldsworthy dropped 5 seconds in his 100 freestyle. Garth Nugent dropped a whopping 22 seconds in his 100 butterfly.  Carlee white dropped an incredible 28 seconds in her 100 freestyle. 1st place finishers include Colby Evenson in the 100 Backstroke and 200 IM.  Kate Goldsworthy in the 50 Freestyle, Chase Morag in the 100 Butterfly, Evette Dow in the 500 Freestyle and Abby Hudson in the 100 Backstroke.  The girls 200 Freestyle relay also finished first.  Great job Olys.  (12/19)


Congratulations to the Sprague wrestlers for their league victory over the Royal Scotts of McKay last night at home.  The Olys defeated the Scotts 70-3.  They were lead by freshman Michael Murphy and senior Sergei Poliakov.  Other great performances were from seniors Jordon Dodson and Corson Davis.  The JV's also won 67 - 3 Great job Olys!!  The Olys will travel tonight to a dual meet with Silverton.  The Sprague wrestlers currently have 8 ranked in the state of Oregon:  Logan Holmquist - #1, Corson Davis - #3, Trent Martinez - #4, Jake Vaughn - #6, James Baxter - #9,Jared Hampl - #11, Jacob Nelson - #13, Michael Murphy - #14. The Sprague Wrestling Team had a Big Winning Weekend. They finishing 3rd at the prestigious Rose City tournament in Portland with7 placers:  Logan Holmquist finished 2nd.  Trent Martinez, Michael Murphy and Corson Davis all finished 3rd.  Jake Vaughn and James Baxter both finished 4th, and Sergei Poliakov finished 5th.  Wrestlers also completed in the Jefferson Tournament last Friday. The Olys wrestled tough and produced seven placers: Nate Rediger and Hunter Botek placed 4th.  Brody Stone, Landon Merzinich, Seth Rediger, and Tristin Friederick all took 3rd in convincing fashion by pinning their opponents in the final match.  (12/16)

Congratulations to the Sprague Wrestlers for finishing 5th at the Perry Purilson tournament this past weekend.  The Olys had 7 placers! Leading the way was junior James Baxter who won the 160 lbs. weight division! Other placers winners: Michael Murphy - 3rd, Jake Vaughn - 3rd, Evan Spragg - 4th, Jacob Nelson - 4th, Jared Hampl - 5th, Sergei Poliakov - 5th.  Congratulations to Seth Rediger and Tristan Friederick for going undefeated and winning the 2nd Varsity tournament!! The Spanish Club is hosting a lunchtime posada (poe-sah-duh) tomorrow in Room 118. There will be traditional Mexican food and a brief presentation about the traditional winter fiesta. Next week is Hour of Code across the world.  Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools are offering computer science than 10 years ago.  It is projected that there will be 1.4 million computing jobs in 2020, but only 400,000 computer science students by 2020.  That is 1 million more jobs than students.  This is a great field to look into.  (12/5)

Congratulations to the Sprague Olyannes Dance Team for placing third in their jazz and hip hop categories at the West Albany dance team competition on Saturday, November 22. In addition, the team qualified in the novelty category for the Fall Dance Team Championships on December 6 at Canby High School.  Four dancers also won individual medalist honors in the advanced drill down competition and qualified to compete in drill down at the fall championships. They are seniors Christina Calvo and Rachel Wilhite, junior Dani Bezley, and sophomore Gess Cole.  Way to go dance team!  (12/1)

Congratulations to Sprague's Speech and Debate team for their outstanding work last Saturday as we hosted the 42nd Sprague Debate Invitational. Sprague continues to host the only all debate tournament in the state. 200 students from 19 high schools competed in four different debate events, arguing over topics ranging from ocean exploration, the right to be forgotten from internet searches, genetically modified foods, and domestic and international issues concerning public health. The following students won individual awards. Rowan Marquette and Katherine Smith placed 2nd in Novice Parliamentary debate. Santiago Monleon placed 4th in Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate. Colin Gesik placed 3rd and Brandon Roth placed 1st in Senior Division Lincoln-Douglas debate. Great job Oly debaters!  (11/18)

 Congratulations to the Sprague Olyannes Dance Team for placing third in their pom category against strong competitors at the Wilsonville dance team competition on Saturday. In addition, junior Jesse Johnson and sophomore Gess Cole won individual medalist honors in the advanced drill down competition and qualified to compete in drill down at the fall dance team championships.
