Team Sprague Track and Field had a great start to our season with yesterday's home meet. Outstanding performances were turned in by Zach Hewson, Josh Coady, Jacob Atkinson, and Cliff Baxter for the boys. The girls were led by Maggie Hering & Lindsey Dorsey. Thank you to all of the volunteers and students who helped us run the meet. Please join us again for our next home meet on April 10th.

For the second year in a row, our Sprague art students won 1st Place in the high school classroom division of the 2013 World Beat Art Contest! We won a $200 gift certificate from the Art Department. In addition, senior art star Heather Youngberg won Honorable Mention, High School Individual. There will be an awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10th, at the Salem Carousel to honor our winning students and World Beat Festival volunteers. (3/18)

Congrats to Trevor Ferris, Hailey Hernandez, Keaton Kahn, Clow Wynn for reciting the first 100 digits of Pi from memory on Pi Day. This is the second year in a row that Cloe Wynn and Keaton Kahn have accomplished this feat. Keaton also set a Sprague record by reciting all 100 digits in just 13.7 seconds. Way to go! (3/18)

That is the theme for the All Night Graduation Party on June 7th and you don't want to miss the chance to be entered into a drawing for an iPad mini or a $300 Gift Card. Join Sprague's Book Club after school today in the library. They will be discussing 20 Boy Summer. (3/6)

Sprague Racquetball travelled to St Louis Missouri this past week to compete in the High School National Championships. The event involved 376 athletes from 38 schools and 1400 matches. Sprague traveled with 25 athletes. Our girls placed 4th in the nation, and our boys placed 3rd while the combined team claimed the National Title!

Individually Connor Laffey finished 2nd in the nation in boys #1 gold. Jamie Stell finished 4th in #2 gold, and Alec DeHart won #3 gold. Josiah Lembcke finished 2nd in boys 4 gold. Jerimiah Wade finished 2nd in #5 gold, and Eric Azizi finished 2nd in the #6 blue round. Connor Laffey and Alec DeHart won the national title in boy’s doubles while Jamie Stell and Josiah Lembcke made the quarterfinals in #2 doubles.

For the girls Stephanie Herschbach finished 4th in girls one blue, Kristine Holman finished 3rd in #2 gold and Alexis Maceira finished 4th in #3 gold. Jordan Heater finished 3rd in girls 4 and Brianna Turner won girls 5 blue. In Girls 6 Maddie Kerzel and Cheyenne Dickenson finished in the gold quarters and Ashley Smith finished in the blue quarters. Stephanie Herschbach and Kristine Holman made the quarters in Sprague’s #1 girls doubles. Alexis Maceira and Jordan Heater took 4th in the girls 2 doubles. Cheyenne Dickenson and Maddie Kerzel finished 3rd in girls 3 doubles while the teams of Anna Stell and Katelyn Smith as well as Ashley Smith and Brianna Turner made the quarterfinals.

The team also competed in mixed doubles with a National Title going to Connor Laffey and Stephanie Herschbach. Jamie Stell and Jordan Heater took 3rd in #2 gold. Sprague dominated the #3 mixed bracket with Alec DeHart and Kristine Holman taking the title while Alexis Maceira and Josiah Lembcke captured 2nd. Jason Dornan and Maddie Kerzel finished in the quarters while Ashley Smith and Eric Holman took 2nd in the consolation.

Receiving All-American honors from the USA Racquetball were Connor Laffey, Stephanie Herschbach, and Alec DeHart. Congratulations to Sprague Racquetball on winning the National Title! (3/6)
